Dr Gillian Johnston graduated from the University of Johannesburg with a MTech Chiropractic (with distinction) in 2016. Prior to this she completed a Bachelor of Science in physiology and human biology, at the University of Witwatersrand (with distinction) in 2009.
Since graduating, Gillian has continued her education and has completed her post graduate sports chiropractic qualification through the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic and is an Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner (ICCSP). Gillian currently serves as an executive member of Chirosport South Africa, the national organisation of sports chiropractic in the country.
Gillian has always been a keen sports woman and was a member of the South African Cheerleading team from 2007 to 2014. She has represented South Africa at two World Cheerleading Championships as part of the co-ed team as well as the all-girl stunts group. She has since changed her focus to strength sports, and currently competes in powerlifting.
Gillian is the team chiropractor for the South African Cheerleading Team and she treats many powerlifting, weightlifting and Crossfit athletes. She has also worked at various sports events throughout the country including the Cape Epic mountain bike stage race, IPF World Powerlifting Championship, IPF World Bench Press Championship, IPF University Powerlifting World Cup and World Masters Squash Championship, to name a few.
Gillian is incredibly passionate about treating and educating athletes, of all skill levels, on ways to reduce their risk of injury as well as optimise their performance. She believes that athletes should be proactive about their health and thoroughly enjoys helping athletes to perform at their best!
